In April 2018, Governor Hogan signed the Maryland Safe To Learn Act, a landmark school safety package that includes key provisions from Governor Hogan’s Safe Schools Act of 2018, including increased funding for the Maryland Center for School Safety, the creation of aggressive statewide standards for school safety, requirements for the standardized training and certification for all school resource officers, requirements for each school system to develop behavioral assessment teams to identify and provide interventions for students who may pose a threat to safety, and the creation of a School Safety Subcabinet Advisory Board, as well as other key elements.
MASC will appoint one student to serve on the School Safety Subcabinet Advisory Board.
The first meeting of the Subcabinet is July 25, 2018, 12:30pm-2:30 p.m., in the Governor’s Reception Room, State House.
The rest of the meetings will probably be in Annapolis, so transportation is a major consideration.
The Advisory Board will make the meeting calendar based on the availability once they get the board together.
Applications are due on Sunday, July 15th at 11:59 pm.
