All of the candidates are qualified and we are excited that each one has made a commitment to this organization. Toward the end of the month, the executive board will be conducting an electronic vote for each office. In the case of the President, 1st Vice President, and Treasurer, there is only an “affirmation” vote (see constitution excerpt below).
*Article VI, Section 1 “…Executive Board business may be conducted and voted on electronically in the event of inclement weather or an emergency situation.”
*Article X, Section 2A(3) “If there are two candidates for elective office, the candidate receiving a majority of the votes cast shall be elected. If there is only one qualified uncontested candidate, in accordance with recommendations in Robert’s Rules of Order, the general assembly may appoint the candidate to the position via a voice vote.”
We want to emphasize that all of the uncontested candidates are very qualified (all active in schools, regions, and MASC). Although no other students opted to take on these responsibilities and run for office, it should in no way, shape, or form detract from the qualified student leaders that are stepping up to take on these responsibilities.
Candidate speeches will be posted on Thursday, March 19th.
For the question and answer “period” for the officer candidates, executive board members may write one question per contest. Your name and school are required on question submissions as this is no different than if you were at the microphone yourself. We need you to “own” the question. Submit questions by Sunday, March 22. Click here to submit questions.
Questions will be randomly selected and reviewed for decency and appropriateness by a panel of students and one advisor. The questions will be sent to the appropriate candidates. As in the case of the 2nd vice president, a question may be directed toward one candidate, but both candidates will be given the opportunity to answer. We will post the candidate responses by March 26th.
