MASC is proud to offer Maryland students a variety of opportunities to engage through committees, task forces, focus groups, and forums throughout the year. Beyond these, we partner with the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) and other organizations to provide meaningful student input on important issues. When these opportunities arise, we’ll share them with students eager to get involved.
Our internal committees play a vital role in driving MASC’s mission forward, giving students a chance to explore their passions, develop leadership skills, and deepen their understanding of student council work across the state.
Please see below for more information on each opportunity.
These forums meet monthly and welcome any student interested in participating. An initial registration is required to receive login credentials for the virtual meetings.

Lead Change Through Advocacy – Join the Civic Engagement Committee (CEC)! This committee empowers students to become informed and active advocates for youth-centered legislation and social issues. Members will research key legislative topics, raise awareness, and educate peers on how to engage with their communities through civic action. Monthly meetings focus on civic projects and drafting testimony, with increased activity during the Maryland legislative session (January through early April). Members will also help host and attend CEC town halls, bill debates, and advocacy days. Past participants have coordinated impactful advocacy efforts, partnered with state delegates, and even taken part in in-person advocacy days. No experience is needed—just a passion for making your voice heard.
Capture the Moments – Join the Committee for Archived Media (CAM)! This committee plays a vital role in preserving the legacy of MASC through photography and videography. Working alongside the MASC Historian, members will document events, edit photos, produce highlight videos, and create a lasting visual record of MASC’s work and impact. This is a perfect opportunity for students who enjoy attending in-person events and have a passion for storytelling through media. Since many responsibilities involve on-site coverage, MASC School Membership and in-person event attendance may be required.
Raise Your Voice for the Planet – Join the Environmental Affairs Committee!
This committee is committed to educating and advocating for youth-centered environmental issues and sustainability efforts. With a strong history of collaboration with local legislators, officials, and Chesapeake Bay experts, this committee researches critical topics and spreads awareness among students across Maryland. Members will also help develop policy stances and prepare testimony for presentations to the Maryland State Board of Education and during legislative sessions in the Maryland General Assembly. No prior experience in environmental advocacy is needed—just a passion for making a difference.
Support MASC’s Mission – Join the Finance Committee! The Finance Committee works closely with the MASC Treasurer to achieve the organization’s financial goals and strengthen its resources. Members contribute by researching grant opportunities, planning creative fundraisers, promoting MASC membership, and supporting various financial initiatives such as workshops and outreach efforts. Whether you’re interested in budgeting, fundraising, or simply gaining valuable leadership experience in financial planning, this committee offers a meaningful way to make an impact behind the scenes.
Students interested in contributing to MASC publications—such as newsletters, briefings, the MASC Monthly Bulletin, and more—are encouraged to apply for the Publications Committee. A passion for writing, editing, interviewing, or related skills is highly valued, and we welcome fresh ideas for improving outreach and engagement.
The Service Committee is dedicated to planning, promoting, and carrying out meaningful service projects at MASC events and throughout the state. We’re looking for enthusiastic, service-minded students who are ready to contribute ideas, take initiative, and make a positive impact. Whether you’re a seasoned volunteer or new to service work, all skill sets are welcome—creativity, organization, leadership, and teamwork all play a role in making our projects successful. The committee meets monthly, with additional meetings scheduled as MASC conferences approach. No prior experience is necessary—just a willing heart and a passion for serving others.
The Social Media Committee is dedicated to promoting MASC events, applications, holiday spotlights, and more. This committee focuses on enhancing the organization’s online presence and engagement. Members will participate in monthly meetings to plan and design future posts and discuss strategies for improving all social media accounts.
Be a Voice for Wellness – Join the MASC Wellness Committee! The Wellness Committee is a student-led, student-run team focused on promoting mental health awareness and advocacy across our schools. As a member, you’ll help review current resources and develop fresh, creative ideas to support student well-being. No previous experience is required—just a genuine interest in making a difference.
