Every five years, MASC has the opportunity to appoint an adult and student liaison for Region 2 (Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania).  These five states make up Region 2 of the National Student Conference. Student leaders and advisors from each of these five mid-Atlantic states are active participants in the programs of their state associations as well as those of the National Student Council, which is a student council program of the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).

MASC is tasked to select an advisor and student liaison for Region 2 to serve April 2023 – April 2024.  The liaisons will plan the Region 2 activity at the National Student Council Conference in June 2023 (if the conference is re-started), attend as they are able conferences around the five states, and plan with the MASC officers and executive directors, the Region 2 Conference in Maryland in April of 2024.  Some expenses for travel and registration are covered by MASC and it is hoped that schools and regions will also help to cover expenses.

This is a unique opportunity to see how other states conduct their conferences and to share some of the great things that MASC does.

Please read the qualifications carefully.  The MASC executive directors will also be available to help the liaisons when possible (web upkeep, etc.)

Region 2 Mission Statement: Region 2 strives to positively guide and encourage effective leadership among current and future generations throughout the states of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. While acting on this vision, Region 2 will stimulate all student leaders, advisers, and individuals to unite and motivate the growth of Student Councils.

Liaisons Term of Office: Starting at the end of the April 24-26, 2020 Region 2 conference in New York (registration for this conference is paid by MASC), through the end of the April 2021 Region 2 Conference in Maryland.

The liaisons selected will be expected to:
  Serve as the co-coordinator for the Region 2 activity before the June 22-24, 2020 National Conference in Colorado
  Update and maintain the Region 2 website
  Foster communication between the state presidents and executive directors of Region 2.
  Foster the sharing of ideas and projects among the state organizations of Region 2.
  Represent Region 2 (along with the Student Liaison) at state conferences throughout the region, visiting each state, if possible at least once during the year.
  Present workshops and speak on behalf of the region when visiting the other states (if invited to present)
  Serve as the Co-Chair for the April 2021 Region 2 Conference in Maryland
  Adult Liaison will also be expected to serve as an advisor to the student liaison and chaperone him/her to conferences/events outside of the state as needed. Most states have Saturday conferences.

MASC will be able to financially support the adult and student liaison with registration for the Region 2 Conference in New York in April, registration for the National Student Council Conference in June, registration fees for other state conferences, and mileage reimbursement at the MASC reimbursement rate of 22¢ per mile, and registration for the Region 2 Conference in April 2021 that MASC plans and hosts.
