Read the workshop application details below BEFORE applying!

Workshop Application Details:  Two Choices!!

Student Created and Facilitated Workshops (middle and high school presenters)

1)  Student leaders in grades 8–12 are invited to apply (7th graders may apply only if they are current MASC Certified Workshop Presenters and present with another certified presenter).

2)  Preference will be given to MASC Certified Workshop Presenters. There is a limit of three presenters per workshop.

3)  Once you have approval from all of your advisors and confirmation of membership, you should find a workshop presenter partner and begin planning a workshop.

4)  This workshop can follow any of the following themes: School Activities, Character and Citizenship, Student Council Management, Leadership, Service, Student Engagement, and Student Voice (specific themes are more in-depth in the form).

5)  To apply to have your workshop included in Convention 2024, follow this link and fill it out completely: CLICK HERE

Note: Your outline does NOT have to be submitted in the form – only the title, short description (to be used as an advertisement for your workshop), and at least three objectives for your workshop.  Note:  Your workshops will probably have 30 or more participants due to the limited workshop breakout spaces at the hotel.

Middle & High School Pre-Written Workshop (HS: The Civics of MASC / MS: Bills and Advocacy Workshop)

1)  This opportunity is open to middle and high school MASC Certified Workshop Presenters.

2)  You can still apply to facilitate this workshop if you also created and applied to teach your workshop as these will be offered during different sessions.

3)  The workshop outline and many materials will be provided to you. You will still be required to make some visuals for the workshop (such as objectives, etc.)

4)  Presenters will be required to attend a virtual mandatory training day on February 3, 2024, either from 9:30  – 11:00 a.m.  OR 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. where all workshop information will be given.   Do not sign up to facilitate this workshop if you cannot attend a session on February 3rd.

5)  A co-presenter will be assigned on the day of the training, however, MASC is happy to take partner requests.

6)  To apply to present this workshop, follow this link and fill it out completely: CLICK HERE

• All workshop presenters must be registered for the MASC Convention through their school’s advisor/administrator.
• Registration for the convention opens on Wednesday, January 3, and closes at 11:59 p.m., Friday, January 26, 2024.  Your school advisor will need to register you for the actual event and only MASC member schools can attend.  Schools are also limited to the number of their voting delegates (plus any MASC executive board members).
• Workshops will be 40 minutes in length.

Your original workshop will be accepted based on several criteria:

1) Categories: MASC is looking for a variety of workshops centered around these possible categories: Workshop-Ideas

2) Completeness of the application: The more information that you can provide about your workshop, the better.

3) Audience: It is important to have a wide selection of choices for students in high school AND middle school. Preference will be given to workshops that are appropriate for middle and high school students. In scheduling workshops, middle and high schoolers will not be mixed in the same session.

IMPORTANT: Once a workshop is accepted, the title and workshop advertisement cannot be changed. The student workshop coordinator will follow up by asking for your completed workshop outline and is also available to help with your workshop planning.  Note, IF your workshop outline is ready to be submitted, it can be submitted on the application.  Many school systems block the upload of files, so be sure that you are NOT ON A SCHOOL SYSTEM DEVICE OR USING A SCHOOL SYSTEM WEB BROWSER.
